St Paul’s Academy is
a specialist school in Sport and Business based in Greenwich
for pupils aged 11-16. It opened in September 2005 as
part of the Government’s Academy programme, backed
by the Archdiocese of Southwark, and will eventually
cater for 1200 students.
Initially the Academy is operating
out of the buildings formerly occupied by its predecessor,
St Paul’s Catholic
School, whilst it waits for its new £26 million campus
to be completed on a nearby site. A four-storey temporary
building has been erected on the site to provide additional
accommodation, as the number of pupils on roll has already
increased from 560 to 640.
We were introduced to St Paul’s Academy in 2005
by education partners that we had previously worked with
on other Academy projects. In the short-term the Academy
was looking to upgrade the facilities in the existing
building and the temporary accommodation. This would
enable them to start to deliver an enhanced curriculum
to their students and make an impact on the learning
process whilst they waited for the new site to be completed.
